The Past Present and Future of Multi dimensional East Africa Turkiye Relationship

The relationship between East Africa and Türkiye has evolved significantly since the African Union recognized Türkiye as a strategic partner in 2008. This partnership was further strengthened in 2013 with the launch of Türkiye’s comprehensive and multi-layered Africa Policy. Türkiye’s engagement in Africa's economic and political development goes beyond typical international relations, marked by proactive initiatives and substantial results, particularly in economic growth, aid, investment, humanitarian assistance, and education.

The historical connection between East Africa and Türkiye dates back to the Ottoman Empire, which had a presence in present-day Ethiopia and Somalia. To explore and strengthen this evolving relationship, ORDA organized a scientific conference under the theme: East Africa–Türkiye Multi-dimensional Relationship: Past, Present, and Future. The event took place on March 13-14, 2021, and brought together experts to discuss and enhance the dynamic relationship between Africa and Türkiye, focusing on its historical roots and future potential.
